Retreat Dates: December 15 - 20, 2019
Class II | Jungle Retreat Center
6 days, 5 Nights
*This retreat is open to all genders
Join Mesic Movement on a yoga retreat hosted by AdventurHER Travel for a week in the lush rain forests of southwestern Costa Rica.
With the year coming to an end, we can look back in gratitude but start to get anxious about what is next. End your year mindfully by taking time for yourself in order to begin 2020 rested and rejuvenated. We will focus on time spent in nature, meditation, and community. Our days begin an end our days with yoga practice, and have several opportunities for Soul Speak, a group discussion on how to renew ourselves in the principals of yoga, and continue to practice healing on ourselves and others. Each participant will receive a Thai yoga bodywork session from Emily Rose, enhancing the calming effects of our beautiful environment, healthy meals, and time unplugging.
In addition to daily yoga sessions, we will spend time exploring Costa Rica. From the onsite waterfalls at Cascada Elysiana to local farmer’s markets, a heart-opening cacao ceremony, a hands-on tour of a coffee plantation, and a beach yoga session at the famous Whale Tail beach with an optional surf lesson, this retreat offers as much time for relaxation as it does for exploration. We can’t wait to connect with you.

Day One: Sunday, December 15
Arriving or meeting in San Jose by 2 PM, we’ll get the chance to see the Costa Rican countryside and drive along the beautiful Pacific coastline on our way to our retreat center outside of Dominical. Arriving for dinner, we’ll eat, settle in, and have our first yoga session to unwind from our travels, listening to the sounds of the rain forests. You’re welcome to relax and chat with other guests on our trip in the common area, refresh in the outdoor shower, or head straight to bed!
Day Two: Monday, December 16
We wake up to the soothing sounds of the rain forest for a sunrise yoga session, followed by a healthy, freshly prepared breakfast made from hyperlocal ingredients, including those grown at the retreat center and its neighbors. We’ll tour the grounds, winding our way from the mango trees and organic gardens to the hiking trails leading to the two beautiful waterfalls on the property. Coming back for lunch at 1, we’ll have our first Soul Speak session to set our intentions for the trip and get to know our community in a guided discussion. The rest of the day you are free to wander, nap in a hammock, read, swim in the pools of the waterfalls, or anything else you are moved to do before we reconvene for dinner at 6:30. We will have our second yoga session of the day after dinner, and then the rest of the evening is yours to spend however you’d like.
Day Three: Tuesday, December 17
Starting the day with yoga and breakfast, we visit a local farmer’s market in the morning in Tinamaste, exploring local products, produce, and community. Returning in the afternoon, we enjoy a few free hours before dinner at 6:30 and our second yoga session of the day.
Day Four: Wednesday, December 18
Continuing our routine of yoga and breakfast, we spend the mid-morning and lunchtime touring a local coffee plantation. With higher altitudes, fertile soils, cool climates, and steady rainfall, Costa Rica is one of the world’s top producers of coffee. Beyond being a vital part of the economy, it is also culturally important as a sign of hospitality and family traditions. We will have the opportunity to tour a family plantation, learn how to harvest coffee ourselves, and eat lunch on the grounds of the plantation.
We’ll then spend the afternoon at one of the best beaches in southern Costa Rica, in the bend of the Whale Tale. Those interested in learning to surf can sign up for an optional beginner’s surf lesson! We’ll learn to catch waves in the gentle surf of Uvita with a 3 hour surf lesson. With no rip tides, easy waves, and no rocks to avoid, Uvita has one of the best beaches in the world to learn to surf; the lesson includes a board, rash guard, fresh fruit, coconut water, and photos & videos of you catching your first waves! Those who elect to not take the surf lesson will have free time on the beach. After this, we will enjoy a beautiful golden hour beach yoga class and return to our retreat center for dinner.
Day Five: Thursday, December 19
After yoga and breakfast, we enjoy a free morning at our retreat center. You may choose to volunteer your time helping in the gardens, hike to the waterfalls and relax in the mist, or find a quiet place to reflect. After lunch we will gather for a cacao ceremony. With unroasted, pure cacao made with intention in a factory of Bri-Bri ladies in their indigenous territory, we will be guided through meditation, movement, music, and expression in this ancient shamanic ritual. Unlike other shamanic healing rituals, a cacao ceremony is easy on the body and the spirit; it is not hallucinogenic and is rooted in helping to rebalance the energies within us. It is a perfect way to wind down our retreat, approaching the winter solstice and end of the year, learning more about ourselves, setting intentions, healing, and gaining clarity on where we are and where we’re headed. We will cap off the experience with a second Soul Speak session to process the journey, followed by dinner and a yoga session.
Day six: Friday, December 20
Our last day together, we enjoy one last morning yoga session and breakfast. We take in our final moments at our beautiful retreat center in the jungle, rested and filled with gratitude and ready to step into the next year. We board our shuttle back to San Jose, taking an afternoon flight back home (no earlier than 2 pm departure ) or choosing to spend the weekend extending your trip to explore the capital city of Costa Rica on your own.
