October 4 - 6, 2019
Born of a serendipitous lunch meeting of women’s climbing groups at an Access Fund advocacy summit in 2019, Beta Bust is an informal WTFNB (women, trans, femme, non-binary) gathering for Midwestern climbers to bond across states and crags, network, and build partnerships while crushing it during a weekend of climbing! This year, we are holding Beta Bust at Devil’s Lake, an iconic Midwestern climbing area in Wisconsin. The official kickoff will be at Wheeler’s Campground on the evening of Friday, October 4. S’mores fixings and a campfire will be provided by AdventurHER Travel. 8 AM Sunday morning yoga will be led by Erin Ayla.
Camping is available Friday and Saturday night at Wheeler’s Campground for $35.87 with taxes and a cash discount. Registration is required, but payment is due upon check-in at Wheelers.
Climbing is available at Devil's Lake (trad, top rope, bouldering), Hillbilly Hollow (trad, sport, scramble for top rope on a few) 45 minutes North, or Necedah (trad and sport, r-rated scramble to top rope on a few), 45-60 Northwest.
As an informal climbing gathering, climbers are expected to bring their own gear and be responsible for their own safety. The organizers of Beta Bust are happy to answer questions about the event, the climbing, and the camping. However, Apex Adventures, a local guiding company, is offering the following services at a special Beta Bust discount on Saturday, October 5 (advance registration required; follow links):
