Class III | Hotel Lodging
Thursday Sept 26 - Sunday Sept 29
4 Days, 3 Nights
Bucket list seaside climbing during New England foliage season? Count us in! Join our group of AdventurHERs for a long weekend of rock climbing in the beautiful Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, Maine. With a focus on bringing your indoor climbing skills to the outdoors (which can require a very different skill set), we'll climb the famed Otter Cliffs as well as some inland areas, like South Bubble or Precipice. We'll take an early hike up Cadillac Mountain to see the country's first sunrise of the day. We'll enjoy a boat ride around the harbor islands on a lobster boat. We'll have a wicked good time.
Up in midcoast Maine as the leaves are turning their beautiful autumn colors, this gym-to-crag destination workshop will teach the skills necessary to transition from the climbing gym to real rock. We’ll learn anchor construction, safety considerations of outdoor climbing, crag etiquette, hazards assessment & risk management, essential gear & equipment, necessary knots & hitches, reading a route, rappelling, and climbing movement on real rock. We’ll have plenty of hands-on practice and, of course, plenty of climbing!
Every AdventurHER trip is led by a professional guide and a Dedicated Adventure Manager (our DAM girls) from AdventurHER.
Activity Level: Class III; Involves full days of physical activity, and you should be comfortable climbing at least a 5.9 (top rope in a gym counts!).
Lodging: Hotel, prices based on double occupancy.
Included Meals: Breakfasts, lunches, and some dinners.
As a part of our Climb the Parks series, a portion of the proceeds of this trip are donated to the National Park Service.
Meet us in Bar Harbor or shuttle up with us from the Amtrak station in Brunswick. Your Designated Adventure Manager (our DAM Girls) will arrange arrival plans with you before the trip.
We'll start out by settling into our hotel and unpacking, going for a quick hike, and getting to know each other over dinner.
Getting an early start, we'll have a good breakfast and meet back up with our guides for a full day of climbing and skill building. From how to choose appropriate and safe areas to setting anchors to rappelling, we’ll learn what it takes to climb outside responsibly and safely.
That evening, you're free to explore Bar Harbor and the many amazing shops and restaurants in town! Or, if you're pooped, go back to the room and sleep soundly. We don't judge.
We get back to our climbing guide for another full day of climbing and skill building.
We'll have an optional alpine start with a hike up Cadillac for the USA's first sunrise of the day with snacks and thermoses full of glorious, hot coffee (or tea). Then we'll meet up with anyone who elected to sleep in and have a good breakfast before we swing on over to the harbor for a lobster boat cruise, because although we could go sea kayaking, let's be real: our arms and shoulders are tired from crushing those routes all weekend! We may see eagles, seals, puffins, and some awesome lighthouses. After we dock, we'll say goodbye and head back downeast, either parting ways in Bar Harbor or shuttling back to the Amtrak into Boston.
** Please note that the events of these days may scramble to other days due to weather. No one wants a cloudy sunrise on Cadillac after hiking all the way up there.
